Julie describes how it can be a very overwhelming experience for many people. “Most often, we receive phone calls from families when their loved one is in crisis. They have had a health crisis, an emotional crisis or there have been cognitive changes”
Initial Criteria Determined by NW Senior Resources:
– What are care needs?
– Where do they want to live?
– What are the social/activity needs?
– What is the monthly budget
Once all of this is determined, several locations can be suggested. Next it is time to meet with the client and tour the possibilities. “By visiting the locations along with the client and their family, we can be their advocate and ask questions of the community that they may not have thought of” explains Julie. Often the process of assessment, recommendations and touring properties can take a couple weeks.
“In the Portland Tri-County area there are a staggeringly number of options” says Julie. There are about 1200 housing options with the vast majority of this being adult care homes.
